Lacrosse for all grades and ages!

YOUTH LACROSSE

The Canal Winchester Joint Recreation District, or CWJRD, has sponsored youth lacrosse since 2016.  Their programs are co-ed and provide players the chance to learn the sport through fun and exciting activities. CWJRD currently offers 3 different tiers of play depending on your child's age.

GRADES K-2

Grades K-2nd is a community based learn-to-play program that emphasizes playing the game and having fun.

Players will participate in in-town 3v3 or 4v4 games each week on a smaller field using smaller age-appropriate goals. Games and skill sessions are designed to provide the maximum amount of activity in a short window of time. To maintain safe play the program utilizes tennis balls. An optional end-of-season scrimmage vs. another program may be scheduled if there is interest from the group.

Participants are encouraged to provide their own lacrosse stick but a limited number molded plastic ones will be available for each session.

GRADES 3-4 and 5-6

These programs continue to focus on the age appropriate learn-to-play aspects of the K-2 program while introducing more game play.

Grades 3-4 will be taught through fun, high rep games and activities designed to maximize player involvement, promote competition, and teach players how to play the game.  CWJRD is a member of the Central Ohio Youth Lacrosse League, or COYLL (pronounced coil) for short. COYLL is made up of teams from the greater Columbus region and will often travel to their games on Sunday afternoons. Each team will play two games each game day.  Players in 3rd-4th will play 7v7 on a reduced field and no defensive poles allowed.

Grades 5-6 will continue to build on what was learned in the 5-6 programs.   Games will move the the reduces size field to a full field as player begin to prep for Middle School play. players will continue to learn the fundamentals though high energy activities and  expand their knowledge of how the game of lacrosse is player.  The role of a long stick defensive player (aka "poles") will be introduced at this age level.

Players that have developed their skills through the CWJRD youth program will be well prepared for Middle School Lacrosse.

Participants of the CWJRD 3-4 and 5-6 teams will need to provide a full set of boys lacrosse gear.
